UNODC

Agenda: Strengthening International Co-operation in addressing smuggling of migrants.

UNODC is a specialized UN agency tasked with the responsibility of countering international crime and illicit drugs since it's creation in 1997. The UNODC serves as the primary global force in crime prevention, criminal justice reform, terrorism prevention, anti-corruption initiatives, as well as technical assistance and alternative development programmes. Because the scale of such problems is often too great for states to confront alone, the UNODC offers practical assistance and encourages transnational approaches to action. The UNODC is committed to achieving health, security and justice for all by tackling these threats and promoting peace and sustainable well-being as deterrents to them. The UNODC pursues its goals through three avenues: research and increasing understanding of issues, supporting local governments in fighting issues, and supporting the ratification of treaties regarding issues.
